About Us

Meet Anneke Green

Anneke Green is the owner of Pontem Developmental Centre in Bloemfontein. She obtained her B.Ed degree in 2004 at the University of the Free State and continued to complete het B.Ed Hons and PGCE in Remedial and Support Teaching. She is passionate about teaching and has since taught at schools across South Africa, including Johannesburg and Parys. Anneke and her family returned “home” in 2016.

Through her years of teaching Anneke identified a group of learners who were being marginalised in mainstream schools on the basis of their neurodevelopmental delays, often in the form of anxiety, ADHD, low muscle tone and difficulties with sensory integration.

These “stumbling blocks” cause these learners to fall behind their peers even though they are blessed with the intellectual capacity to succeed in mainstream schools. To compound matters, these stumbling blocks are generally not effectively identified or managed, despite the fact that they are, for the most part, capable of being overcome entirely. As a result, Anneke created Pontem Developmental Centre for these learners with the sole aim of effectively addressing their neurodevelopmental delays and reintegrating them into the mainstream schooling system.”

Since 2018

Pontem was established in January 2018 for learners who do not comfortably fit into our current mainstream school system. Pontem uses a development of CAPS, the curriculum currently in use at mainstream schools Nationally, which was designed by Anneke to address both current and past stumbling blocks faced by learners with neurodevelopmental delays by making CAPS more Accessible to these learners through movement, concrete learning and fun, thus cementing a firm foundation for future formal learning. Pontem provides a unique solution for those children who are hindered in reaching their full potential as a result of, among many others, being easily distracted or unable to sit still for extended periods. It has scientifically been shown that children with low muscle tone, poor focus and concentration, and problematic sensory integration, must MOVE to be able to LEARN. Pontem provides this through its unique approach to learning.
